Expectations and Considerations

We each come to therapy searching for things like change, understanding, and symptom relief. During our initial sessions, you can expect us to take time to get to know you and use our experience to shape what treatment can look like for you. We will also look at thoughts, feelings, and reactions that arise in therapy in order to work directly in the present moment while giving your past space. Whether you are looking for extra support during a challenging situation, or you simply want to change directions in your life, we look forward to establishing a collaborative relationship.

I pride myself on my multicultural approach to therapy while bringing in teachings and principles of multiple disciplines, drawing mainly from psychodynamic therapy, feminist therapy, and other evidence-based practices. It is this multi-disciplinary approach that I believe best serves clients and can help adjust treatments to what you need, when you need it. Life can be hard and confusing, but as your mental health professional I will be there to empathize with and support you.

Diversity, equity and inclusion will always be in the forefront of my work. A huge part of my passion for this work was to address the inequities in available providers for marginalized groups. Wanting to fill in those gaps led me to a graduate program with a bilingual Spanish concentration that supported my language development as well as my knowledge of the unique presentations and struggles that Latinx clients may bring into therapy, allowing me to be a more informed clinician. This experience opened my eyes to the importance of considering how every identity impacts our clients and how this directly effects the types of interventions a clinician should use, the important historical context a clinician should have when working with client with particular identities, and the value of a client having access to a therapist of similar identities. I make a strong effort to keep those lessons in mind and continue educating myself to be a more multiculturally competent clinician.
